Brian and I wish to thank Michelle, Dianne, and Phyllis for the arrangements provided by BEST WESTERN PLUS Chocolate Lake Hotel with regard to our family wedding.

Everything was wonderful; our very special guest room, the reception venue with all the windows, the food presentation and quality and staffing for the reception, and the ease with which you handled the long-distance preparations. The wedding dinner was exceptional as well.

We could not have been more pleased or satisfied. The weather even co-operated for an outside ceremony and photography.

The complimentary rooms and the special wedding guest-room rates were a lovely bonus.

Guests from Texas and Alberta alike voiced compliments as to BEST WESTERN Chocolate Lake Hotel being “a gem in the heart of a city.”

I wanted to take this time to let you know how amazing everything was on our big day.

Tara and I both agree that things couldn’t have gone any better. The venue was unbelievable for pictures, for dancing, for dinner, and for hosting guests. The staff couldn’t have been more accommodating and helpful — and not just for the things expected of them, they went above and beyond and helped us fine tune all the little details that made our day incredible. The service staff during dinner were on cue and did a great job with everything. Those who were there for both the set up on Thurs/Fri and the dinner deserve some extra credit and a huge THANK YOU because without them things wouldn’t have moved so smoothly. I wish I remembered the names because they were great. We had so many people tell us it was the best wedding they’ve ever been to, and Tara and I couldn’t have had a better day.

Finally, we would both like to thank you personally. You were fantastic with helping us (and putting up with us) over the past few months. Everything we needed, you were on it; any questions we had, you answered promptly. You are a ROCK STAR and make sure you forward this message to your boss because they need to know how lucky they are to have someone like you in this position.

We hope your hotel enjoyed having us for the wedding as much as we enjoyed being your guests. It was a lot of fun and I’m sure you made a great impression on a lot of people, especially us. I will forever be grateful to the BEST WESTERN PLUS Chocolate Lake Hotel family for making July 7 the best day of my life’s journey thus far — my wedding day.

Perhaps I’ve struggled with sharing a public review because I’m torn as to whether I want to expose this very unique and cherished Halifax venue as a best-kept secret.

From the very first site visit, it felt like a cozy, tucked away place just beyond the city core and overlooking a gorgeous lake. The staff is incredibly personable, and they truly went out of their way to ensure our outdoor wedding was everything we wanted it to be. With 115 guests, this outdoor ceremony and indoor dinner/reception required organization, planning and heart. With rain looming over the night before and morning of the big day, I can say their staff cared as much about setup as I did.. and were watching the weather network by the hour until a final call had to be made. They never pushed, and pulled off a miracle to get the ceremony set up in dry weather. I honestly felt cared for as a bride – not a customer – at every moment.

The honeymoon suite was amazing — the perfect room for a bride and her bridesmaids to prepare for the big day. With six women, a hair stylist, makeup artist and a few drop-in friends in attendance, there was still plenty of room. There’s also a TV, an electric fireplace and a two-person pod-tub with see-through side walls. The guest rooms were also lovely, very clean and decorated nicely. Having parking included was a major plus for guests. Staff were very friendly in providing guests directions, and they always wore a smile. The ballroom and outdoor patio was perfect for guests to take a break and enjoy the evening air. The backdrop of Chocolate Lake was just a stunning addition to the day.

After the festivities, we returned back to our room to strawberries and champagne, and a hand-written note from our event planner. They stored my items for a week while we were away in Jamaica, and I still keep in touch. Months later, I returned with a colleague for lunch, and a staff member remembered me and commented on my wedding photos.

It felt as though they truly took pride in being part of my day, and I felt so lucky to have found such a place in which my family and friends had the time of their lives.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about Michelle Whittle and the team at BEST WESTERN PLUS Chocolate Lake Hotel. I would highly recommend their venue for events, dinners, weddings and dining experiences in their Lakeside Grill. It’s been almost a year, and I always look forward to going back to visit the place I said “I do.”
